which engine to buy?!?!?
ok so i wanna buy a new engine for a project im working on. i cant decide if i wanna buy an 03-04 cobra engine or wait for the "coyote" engine. which do you think would better? also how much taller is the 03 cobra engine than the stock cobra engine form the 96-01 model cobras?
I imagine the Cobra engine will be a bit taller maybe, but also a bit wider, since DOHC heads occupy more space than SOHC heads. Personally, I'd wait for the Coyote, a DOHC 5.0...it's already bigger to start with, AND it has the advantage in head design of nearly a decade more of development. It's based off the 5.0 "Cammer" Grand Am engine, which makes quite a bit of power without turning insane rpm.
Not cheap, especially for the first few years until enough of them get out there as production engines. The 3V for instance wasn't a cheap crate engine at first, but now they're around half the price of what they were a few years ago.
The current 5.0 Cammer(keep in mind though it's a Grand Am legal crate engine) is around $15,000 WITHOUT engine management or wiring.
It's going to be a sophisticated engine, a DOHC 5.0 with variable valve timing is no joke.

OP Is the Cobra in your sig yours? If anything Id go with another 4.6L Maybe even talk with Lethal Performance and get their Boss330 Racing 4.6L they have for 4G. Or if you wanted to you can get a aluminator block.
5.0 you be at a disadvantage at this point, no one really knows what it be capable of, and besides that its got VVTI, and that alone could cause an issue with engine management, you could either A. Find a way to get your ECM to communicate with it, or B. try and lock out the VVT all to begin with, you may need a stand alone to do so
What are your plans for the engine? Turbo? Twin Turbo?
