Default K-member vs oil filter

I did a brief search, but there are so many search results to thumb through and so many posts it might be quicker to just ask the question.

I've got a PA Racing K-member on my '98 Cobra. I was just doing the first oil change since the new motor was built and ran in to an issue. The old oil filter, which is a Motorcraft FL-820S came off just fine.

The new oil filter, which is also a Motorcraft FL-820S, will not go on. The K-member is in the way and I cannot get the oil filter to go straight on to the threads on the oil cooler. I fought with this for an hour before I called it quits.

Is there another, shorter, oil filter I can use with the PA Racing K-member? Or am I going to have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack the motor up a half inch to get the filter on?

Effin awesome brother. Thank you!

And it goes on without any problems? I was about to take a hammer to my K-member tonight because I was getting so pissed, but Coors Light talked me out of it.

I don't think I really would've done it. I was just getting aggravated. Why I couldn't get the new one on after I got the old one off really was pissing me off. I couldn't even get the old one back on.

The K&N is a little smaller diameter but I still can't get it on. It's closer, but I'll still have to figure something out. I didn't give it much of an effort, but it may go on.

Default Oil Filter

I suggest that you use on of those relocating kits. I know amsoil has it and I use it on my. They have for all kind of applications. Basically comes with a treaded connection that has two female fittings (oil in and oil out), then you can relocate your filter to wherever you want and may be able to use a larger volume filter.
