Default Choosing new gears??

My mustang is a 2002 GT. I currently have an SCT XCal 2 handheld tuner. 75MM throttle body. An offroad X pipe with Borla Stinger Catback. BBK CAI. The next mod i want to do is new gear ratios and I am not sure which I should get. I use my car as a daily driver but occasionally take it to the drag strip. I have heard great things about 3:73 and 4:10's. What is everyones opinion on gears??

Cool

both are good choices but each has certain advantages over the other. like if you do alot of highway driving you are going to hate the gas mileage of the 4.10s whereas if you do mostly city the gas mileage thing wont be as big a problem. now you will get better acceleration with the 4.10s but the top speed will be slower than the 3.73s.

my advice would be to do as much research as possible to the pros and cons of each set and weigh them out with your driving needs to see which option would fit you the best

theres a very small difference in gas mileage with 4:10's and 3:73's. and like he said do some research theres 50,000 threads asking this question. general consensus is 3:73 for a 5sp and 4:10 for a automatic. you also have to consider your long term power also. if you plan to go with any sort of FI, those gears may be too much for you.

id go with the 4.10 if its an automatic. in my opinion thats the perfect ratio. anything higher would be too much. 3.73 if your car is manual.

I have 4.10s in my 05 GT 5spd. Quite often I dont use first gear. Easy enough to take off in second. The whoosh factor from 2k to 6k in first is addictive, but make sure you have the traction for it or it can get expensive and sideways in a hurry. Drove from San Diego to Dallas and back, over 3k miles, averaged 67 mph and got 23 mpg. It also depends on what gears you have now as to how much difference you will notice.

As the others said:

4.10-automatic
3.73-5 spd or supercharger

Follow those guidelines and you'll be happy.

If your planning on going FI I would probably stick with 3.73's. I went with 4.10's that are waiting to be installed right now. But right now im going a different direction, and staying N/A for now. Just going to cam it and spray the hell out of her. Later when I want more power I might throw a kenne bell or something of that nature on. Just my opinion. BTW im going from 3.55's in a 5sp(no point to jump to 3.73's for me).
