Default Damaging a short throw improper installation? updated

i just recently purchased a car and found out it seems there was a shortthrow installed in the car. from help from fellow forum members it looks like it is a pro 5.0 now after continuly looking at it and my transmission took a crap on me it looks like the previous owner installed the shifter incorrectly. when it is in gear it is hitting the shifter stops. which i am guessing is possibly part of the cause of my transmission going. my question is. Can you damage the short throw in anyway or will i be ok to reuse it in my brand new transmission?

It should be ok to reuse if you adjust the stops correctly. In fact I'd rather have them backed way off than, as your was, too tight.

I just rebuilt a Steeda Tri-ax shifter yesterday, and unless it is bent or broken, it should be fine. I didn't see anything in the Steeda, which I'm guessing is similar in design to the Pro 5.0, that can be too boogered up. And it makes shifting WAY more fun!

Throw the pro 50 in the garbage, where it belongs, and grab a real STS.

Hey man, I was just messin with you. Don't toss the pro 50, unless you just don't like it.
If you do decide to get a new sts, I highly recommend the MGW. No missing third, powershifting is a breeze, and the handle adjusts to your likeing...Not to mention, you cant go wrong with another piece of billet aluminum.

Visibly it looks fine. I took my Steeda apart and cleaned out all the old grease and dirt, lubed it up really well and installed it. Works like a champ! I would clean it, lube it, and then check the action for any odd sensations while running it through the shifting pattern. If it feels smooth, reinstall it and enjoy!
