Got to drive an 2000 Trans Am WS6 today.
So today, me and a friend of my sister's were going to get vietnamese food, going down a long, mostly unpoliced highway to get there. I have the 06 Mustang GT, and he had a 2000 Trans Am WS6. He's always wanted to drive the stang, and I've wanted to drive the WS6, so we traded off for that one drive. Here's my comparison.
The WS6 was not as smooth of an acceleration as the GT. You have to kind of shove the pedal to really get going. I'll add that the handling wasn't great, and the car, overall, felt HEAVY. But once you floored it and got going, it was an insanely fun car to drive. I really liked the feel of the driving too, the seats seemed lower, and more race-like with large bolsters, really gripped you in. The steering wheel had these cool grooves at 10 and 2. Both cars were automatic transmissions.
On the way back, we raced from a stop sign. (Driving our own cars). My GT won by a hair. Overall I'd say I really enjoyed the WS6, even though it's considerably less, I'd say, agile than the S197. I'd say what I enjoyed the most was, again, the racing-like driver position. Sweet car, I'd drive it again in a minute.
This might have gone into OT, but I really...don't...want it in OT. Thanks.

Oh yeah the WS6 is a helluva lotta fun to drive. I haven't driven the '05 or newer Mustangs, but I do have an 02 WS6 and an 01 Cobra. I love em both. While they might be competitors in the same class, they're really very different cars. At a quick, high level:
The Cobra is more visceral (my friend used that term after driving both and it's the perfect description). It has a louder, rougher sound, and a more angular, aggressive look. The Cobra sits noticeable higher, it's easier on my old man body getting in and out.
The WS6 has a lower, smoother sound, and it has the sleek curvy look. As Silas says, you definitely sit lower. It's a bit flashier and gets more looks.
To all the Mustang owners who rag on the f-bodies without ever having driven one, I say you gotta drive one and then make an informed opinion. If I were forced to sell one, I really don't know what I would do! What a terrible choice to have to make...!
