Conversion to a cobra?
Ok here is my question, I've got a 2000 mustang with a 3.8L V6 auto, its 100% mine now and i'm looking to start making some major changes to it, I want to replace many things on the suspension, wheels, body kit, exhaust, etc etc, all of which i'm sure i can do. The question i have is if i were to find a 99-04 cobra in a salvage yard with a good drive train would it be possible to put the cobra drive train in my mustang, I'm sure its not going to be a walk in the park but I have very valuable resources in the form of a regional ford mainence manager, along with any tools i'd need. I'm not a total motor head but i know the general concepts and learn quickly. So i guess to sum it up is it possible and if so what would be the major pit falls i'd need to know about?
Thanks

the swap is possible and will run you appx 15 grand for engine/tranny/drive shaft/rear/ecu and wiring/ and labor costs. i have never done the swap before and dont plan on doing it, but i looked into it a while back. it is too much work for me to tackle. you will need motor mounts and suspension upgrades to support the additional weight up front. there is a lot to go into a conversion. hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.
anything is possible. you can get the stock 99 cobra or 2000 cobra engine assembly complete with exhaust and tranny from ford racing. brand new. price is $5799 or there abouts. i have no idea how tough it would be to find what you need in a salvage yard. just thought i throw an option out there for ya.

If you want to search some salvage yard prices go to www.car-part.com this is a system that salvage yards use to list there inventory of cars. It won't be cheap they do know the value of the Cobra parts in salvage yards but if you have enough $ you can do anything you want. Don't forget you will need to change your rearend I belive you have a 7.5 and you will need a 8.8 to handle the extra torque and HP.
Honestly unless your dead set on a cobra motor for the money it will cost for that you could build a stroker motor or a 351 put a blower on it and make easily the same horse power for half the money.Cobra parts are going for top dollar and dont hang around for long.Although there is a good deal on ebay right now but he doesnt say how many miles are on it check it out it has the tranny and everything http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-...spagenameZWDVW Plus he has no feedback which is very shady on something like that
