Default Fuel Filter Location

I'm trying to install a new fuel filter in my '02 base. Can somebody tell me where it is? Also, it would be helpful to know where the jack points are so I don't damage anything.

Also, as a bonus if somebody could tell me how to bleed the fuel (after disconnecting the plug in the trunk if thats even necessary) that would be super duper awesome. Thanks in advance.

filter should be above the axle. what i always do is, pull the fuel pump fuse, crank, and have gas cap open... then just disconnect it and replace it quick.... just put the fuse in, cap on, prime it till you hear it build pressure, then start....just jack the diff up, and put stands under the axle tubes or on the subframe... youll get more room with it on the subframe.....

I don't pull ny fuses or take the cap off. Can get the rear up with a decent jack from the frame rail from one side of the car for enough room. Then just take the filter off, replace it, prime it once or twice and away you go.

Keep a rag handy bc there will be fuel in the filter that will pour out. Ive changed one in 30 min. Also there are fuel filter disconnect tools that you need. Makes life A LOT easier

Is there a switch to prime it, or do I just leave the key in the "ON" position?

As stated, its over the rear axle. While you can get to it with the car jacked up via the axles, you'll get alot more room to work if you jack it up via the sub-frame. Check your owners manual for the mount points.

As for pressure in the lines: Unless you have a leak in the oil pump (where it is letting fuel flow back into the tank when the car is shut off) you will have pressure in the lines. If you pop the fuel filter off while there is still pressure in the lines you will get a nice spray of gas everywhere. The way I depressurized the line was to flip the fuel pump kill switch in the trunk. Then start the car and let it run till it dies. At which point the pressure is out of the lines. Replace the filter, then reset the kill switch and start the car up.

I would advise wearing safety glasses when doing this job. Even with no pressure in the lines, there will be some fuel in the filter and you don't want it getting in your eyes when your on your back under the car.

I used the auto-zone plastic tools when I changed my girly's fuel filter and it worked fine.
