I have a 2006 Mustang with 70K on the engine (mostly highway). Currently, I only drive it about 40 miles a week and have always taken good care of it. However, in the last week, when I start up the vehicle, it makes a loud blowing noise and then, once the engine is revved, sounds normal. I was wondering if I need a new starter. In advance, thanks for your help/advice.

Once you release the key, the starter's job is done. Probably something else.
