Default Which would you want?

I would like to over time turn a fox into a somewhat ultimate handling machine and keep it for a long time, maybe even until i get out of college (i know...im not even halfway through high school...). 5.0 insurance might be a tad high so i am leaning toward the turbo (though im scared it doesnt have forged internals, 8.8 rearend, and other stuff but ill find out when i call) seeing as no SVO was available in 93 it is probably insured as a plain *** 2.3 hatch . Anyone know if the 2.3 would be lighter? i personally dig the lx hatch look anyway. ANY input on which you would choose is greatly appreciated. thanks</P>

links to both for closer inspection if you like...</P>

subscribing to thread...sorry to double post </P>

but while im at it...</P>

basically it boils down to this: would the economicality of the "SVO" outweigh its possible unreliability? i would assume it would if the guy did it right...so i guess all i need to do is call him up and see if he did that pony up right. thanks again for looking</P>

but wait...another thought...would the car being a 4 cyl affect suspension modability or are the suspension parts pretty interchangable between 4 bangers and 302's</P><edited><editID>Jugador</editID><editDate>37954.7896759259</editDate></edited>

You can't pass up a 4k 87 stang. Forgedpistons, sweet motor, unlimited possibilities. In terms of performance, its easier to mod the 302 by a little bit, and I could never live without the sound of a V8 in a stang. Think about it, the4 banger, if its done up correctly, could be faster than the 302 at this time, however, you can do little to make the V8 fast, plus it costs less, and black is harder tokeep clean. The guy with the 4 banger says he has a V8, 5 speed trans. Does that mean he had a V8, or has one now, or has the 5 speed out of a V8. Im going with the 88. Are you finally going to get your first mustang and become one of the crew?? <IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>95Stealth302</editID><editDate>37954.8166203704</editDate></edited>

f**k yes. i will even get a damn split port sixer if thats what it amounts to, but not a single port. im really considering doing a turbo swap 4 banger myself if it amounts to that...but it would take scavenging and work. </P>

ive got the fever...only cure is a stang!</P>

Oh ps, if i were getting a fox im really thinking about painting it grabber blue cause damn does it look sweet on one.</P>

one last thing...i really would like toput emphasis on the handling, though you have no reason to handle if you cant go fast...so inform of moddability of the 2.3 if you know of anything</P>

There are plenty of places to mod 2.3Ls, but, generally speaking, the amount of information, recources, and parts available to mod mustangs are more readily available for the V8s. As far as handling goes, just because you have a smaller engine, doesnt mean you'll handle better. My stang comes stock with front and rear stablizer bars, and it handles great. The 2.3 might be a bit more nimble through a corner, but like you said, you have no low end to dash out of the turn. You can purchase stabilizer bars, and do upgraded suspension to the 87 and it will handle way better than the 2.3 does now. But, yes, if you did the same stuff to the 2.3, it would still be lighter, by a little bit, and thus hold the road better. If you have some nice tires and stuff on the 87, well, lets just say you could road race the thing. Get the fox and dont paint it off the bat, you might grow to like the color, so spend money on performance stuff first. GO FOXIES.</P>

im still leaning toward the turbo (or at least i think its a turbo <IMG src=smileys/smiley8.gif border="0">) because of the economy of it (especially insurance...i know a guy paying 4800 a year for a 5.0and hesa year older than me! [though i dont know if hes running full coverage but i suspect it]). you may not like the 2.3, but its better than a honda right? and damn it i really f**kin love the lx hatch look so much better than the gt...i dont know why...just smoother i guess. </P>

nudder thing...the turbo already has 17 cobra rims so thats like at least a thousand off something i would do anyway...</P>

and one last thing...it is turbo (supposedly) so it will have some power out of the turns</P><edited><editID>Jugador</editID><editDate>37954.848125</editDate></edited>

hate to keep whoring my own thread, but im so pissed my dad is out of town today cause its the last day the red GT could have been gotten for 3600 if we paid in cash...but oh well, the main costs in owning a used sports car is insurance and maintanence, not the initial purchase price

I agree jug, insurance is going to kill you if you're under 25. I pay $840 a year for the 5.0, including the wife's '79 corvette. But then again, I'm old, and they give us the "safe driver" credit. Just be patient, it will all come around. I'd give it all up to be your age again, so work hard and enjoy your youth, and everything will fall into place.
