Question What Is Resleeving??

I have a 68 200 cu in 6 cylinder that is burning a little oil. Engine has over 136K miles on it and I don't know if it has ever been overhauled or rebuilt. I was told that a resleeving would cure this problem and that a complete engine rebuild was probably not necessary. What exactly is resleeving? I know it doesn't include overhauling/rebuilding all the internal parts, but is it a good idea or not? It's certainly cheaper than a complete overhaul/rebuild, but cheaper ain't always better.

Alot of older cars have sleeves on the cylinder wall. They basically push out the old one and replace it and precision bore it to spec. So then there is a smooth cylinder wall again.

some motors have steel cyc sleeves instead of direct block bore, they will pull out the sleeve and install a new one then it will be like a new block, depending on your pistons.

Is that something I can do or is there a need for precision equipment?

Nope, not a DIY project for sure. If it's not precise you're in trouble.

OK. Can I pull the head and take it to a shop and have it done, or will they want the entire engine? Did someone REALLY run water thru their engine???

Nope, they'll need the engine. They have to pull the old/put in the new and then bore it, so it has to be in the engine when they do it. At least that would be my guess. I'd give them (whoever is doing it) a call and obviously they'd tell ya for sure.

About the water lol who knows...It's the internet but funny as hell either way.
