RE: V6 differences
94-95 3.8's had 145hp, 96-98 150hp 99-04 193hp.
The 94-97 3.8L has a weaker bottom end, the main bearings are made of a lesser quality material and the nodular main caps are thing and have not had the slag dremled off of them. In 98' the 3.8L got a better bottom end with a more durable main bearing and a thicker debured main cap.
In 99' the introduction of the Splitport head was introduced into the mustang world, although it had been in use before in such vehicles like the 97-99 F150 4.2L truck. The runner sizes increased and larger exhaust ports incorperated as well. The intake could be said to be the equivolant of a V12 car being that there are two ports for every 1 cylender, butterflies on a shaft open or close depending on vacuum from more throttle or less. The first set of ports are short for optimal horsepower, the second set are long for optimal torque. Metered by the butterflies the engine could better use the massive amount of air entering the cylenders. Some say that removing the butterflies can add 5-15hp, but I really dont know myself Another difference in the heads were up untill 98' they had a poor cooling design, the water passages looked like swiss cheese because there were so many holes so close to eachother, this caused the heads to be prone to cracking and warping (Happened to me TWICE!!![>:]) with enven the slightest overheating or just use over many miles and time. The poor design also made it difficult for head gaskets to seal propperly. In 99' The heads were re-thought and re-designed and a better more stable durable head was realeased and most of those problems went away with the passing of the 98' Model year.
Cams were also a big change, to be able to use the new quantitys of air coming into the engine ford released a slightly larger lift cam with a longer duration and wider LSA, but im not absolutly sure about that information or the specifics. Another thing that added to the extra power was a larger throttle body and a more agressive tune.
As for the whole splitport thing, you can make big power with it and modified heads such as those at www.supersixmotorsports.com can create huge numbers. They makes some crazy shiz!
Welp thats a good deal of what I know about them, hope it helps a little.
l8r all.

RE: V6 differences
LMFAO! Its funny but it looks more like a Rabbit wearing a Fez LOL!
As for the heads, yea they kick a$$. If you match it with a ported upper and lower intake from a 97-99 4.2L F150 then you should see a hell of alot more power out of it. 97' plus model windstars also have a similar intake but not as radical as the F150.
Changing to that intake on a 99+ 3.8 will make about 230-ish ponies and about 280-ish torque, something like that. The intake can also take a much larger throttle body. This intake is the cheap alternative to a high flowing intake that has pleanty of meat in the casting to port the lower and media port the upper.
Have fun!
