Default Tires vs Horse Power

I like to know if anyone knows if the bigger the tire because of extra weight the less or loss of horse power I get in my stang? Or will my RPM's /gas milage increase. I'm thinking of buying some 255/50 BF Goodrich g-force tires I just want to make sure I don't lose any horsepower,increase RPM's and gas milage on my 05'pony car.
If anyone can help,Thanks.

You don't lose HP because of tires

No you can't lose horsepower by changing tires, but you will affect your final drive ratio.

Sticking a taller tire on your car (driven wheels) will raise your final drive ration a bit, your rev's won't be quite as high at high speeds, and it will be a bit slower off the line. Your speedometer will read wrong too.

Thanks for the tip. I'm thinking buying the "Hot Wheels 68" chrome rims and it was recommended to use the 255/50 tires but since then Ive heard I can use a smaller size 235/55 or 245/55 just little confused.

guys he said 255/50 but whats the rims size, its at LEAST a 16 AT THE LEAST, but 17 is more stylish and if its 18 then 50 series is too tall. 45 series with the reinforcing rib in the sidewall really kick *** and bring a nice look to any stang rollin on 17"s

being that you have not told us the rim size no one can make a judgement if it is going to affect your drive ratio yet. What is your stock tire size and then tell us the rim size you are upgrading to.

The extra width with the 255's (10" I believe) wont really slow you dont, its probably 5lbs more on each tire, I would hope that you would put 225's on the front to make it look nicer So your probabl only adding 10lbs in extra tire as it is if your ALREADY 225 or close to that. Lord help you if your cruisin 195's!

Personally I like to cruise an 85 donut for the rear when I want to just be stupid with the burnouts here in my Town-O-Sac-Town (KIDDIN, JUST KIDDING!!![8D])

Anyways, get us the rim information on your stock and new ones, tire info on your stock ones too and then we can help ya out. If you get us your rear diff ratio too perhaps we can get an overall ratio for ya.

Oh another thing, dont go smaller with the first number, thats your tire width, thats the footprint on the ground to get you the traction you need to take you to the finish line and into your new girlfriends Pants![8D] (Sorry Im being dirty tonight)

The 2nd number is the sidewall height, that and the rim is what affects your overall height and final drive ratio. So if anything keep the 255 size or even go to a 265 size so you wont scuff your rims as easy on curbs and shrink the size of the sidewall height, personally I think 225/45/R17 for the front and 275/45/R17 for the rear. But dont take my word for it, take down these number and go to a tire shop, get out both sets of tires and stand back and see how you like them. You might decide a taller sidewall and go back to 50 or even 55 series or you might desire a wider or narrower tire. But to be quite honest, there is nothin like sitting behind a mean sounding stang in traffic and seeing some meats up under those fenders, makes it look simply [:@]MEAN![:@]

Good luck.

And by the way www.TireRack.com has some FRIGGIN AWESOME DEALS!!!

Oh one more thing, Height and crap..

255/50/R15 = 25" tall, 10" wide
255/50/R16 = 26" tall, 10" wide
255/50/R17 = 27" tall, 10" wide
255/50/R18 = 28" tall, 10" wide

Now for the the 255/45/R15 +
R15 = 24"
R16 = 25"
R17 = 26"
R18 = 27"

Bleh, time for bed, hope I helped a little

When I added my aluminum flywheel, aluminum driveshaft, 9" Torque Converter, and draglites I piked up 9 HP on the dyno. Less rotating mass=more HP
