8.8 rear end ?

8.8 rear end ?
Pardon my ignorance, but are the 8.8 rear's different between models? Would any of the previous years 8.8 fit in my '05 4.0 that currently has a 7.5? I know in order to swap to an 8.8 i'd need a Cobra flange but I don't know if the 8.8's are interchangeable
I found a complete 8.8 with 3.73's for $300 out of a '90 GT and if it fits I want to jump on it.
