Default 98 vs 99-04?

I have a 98 mustang... Is there really much of a point to upgrade to a 99-04 mustang?
if i understand correctly the chassis is exactly the same and the engines just have minor improvements for a few more hp?
I'm really itching for a new car but can't quite afford the price of an 05+ but its looking like a 99-04 might be a pointless upgrade. Can't seem to decide on anything else I might want either.

Maybe upgrade to a speciality car.....Cobra, Mach 1, or like cars....still within the '04 and older cars. I seem to have a thing for the Mach 1's but passed on a couple of recent ones I saw since the wife suggested the '11.

Im not sure what you mean by only making a few more hp, the 98 makes 215hp and the 1999+ makes 260hp. That a pretty good jump in hp if you ask me.

I have to agree with DreamerGT. The extra 30+ Horsepower and 12 ft. lbs of Torque is a slight but noticeable difference. The "New Edge" models weight compared to the 98 is also less than 40 pounds in difference (04's being 3,317 lbs and 98's at 3,278 lbs). I just got mine last week and it only had 55k miles on it. Just take some time to find the right version for you. I see plenty of Mach 1's and Cobras around that price, but the insurance for a 20 year old was the deciding factor for me.

Depends on what motor we're talking about.

If performance is the deciding factor wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to do a pi swap on your current car or a supercharger? Unless you like the change in body styles
Could be like me to and just get the itch for a new car every year

I happen to like the 99-04 body style better than the 94-98. All personal opinion/taste. If you do decide to buy a newer stang, why not get a Mach 1 or Cobra? 99-02 Cobra's can be bought at a reasonable price. 03-04 Terminator's still command high prices, but they are the best bang for the buck. But like pk222 said, just modify yours.

I think you mean '99 or '01. Didn't make the Cobra in '00 or '02

2002 Cobras exist, in a far away land called Australia.

The 99-04 have a slightly wider track then than the 94-98.
