my father recentally rebuilt a 1967 289 for his mustang coupe we rebuilt the whole car and dropped in the engine now when we went to start it it will not fire. it turns over but it just backfires through the carb and shoots fuel mist 2 feet in the air. we tried different firing orders that didnt work. the coil is not getting 12v at all its around 6. if you have any ideas please let me know.

Check to see if the distributor is in the correct position....and make sure the cam is not 180 out.

your coil will only get full voltage while cranking, after its started the voltage runs through a resistor to prevent burning out the points. set #1 to top dead center, refer to your cam card for correct firing order and reinstall the dizzy with the rotor pointed at #1 and reorder wires accordingly. you may also have to pull the plugs and clean them if they are fuel soaked. i got the firing order wrong on a build, kicked my *** for an hour.

Def sounds like timing issue, try to just pick the dizzy up and flip 180* and see if runs
