Hey all, im new to the site and the world of mustangs. I recently got an 08 gt, and i got my self a CAI for her. well searching CraigsList today i saw an SCT SF3/X3 tuner up for sale. The guy V6, but claims it'll work for a GT as well. does anyone have any information on this? Thanks.

 

Yes it will work on any Ford gas engine from 1996 to 2010. BUT the thing you DO have to check is if it is locked or not. If it's vin locked to his car, be useless to you unless you send it to SCT to be unlocked and they charge $150 fee to do that.

To check the status, power the device on, select Device Info, scroll to bottom. Should say Device Married/Locked or Device Unmarried/Unlocked and say Unlocks left 1 - 5 depending how many are left.

 

Ok, so if its locked then its basically pointless to buy it since ill end up payin for a new one in the long run. is there a way to ask the ower if its locked? hes a good cruise from me (about 45-50) minutes. He doesnt own his mustang anymore so i cant ask him to phyically do it. would he know if its been locked?

 

He should be able to check to see if its locked for you. (it doesn't need to be hooked up to the mustang)

and as for the $150 unlock fee.. it depends on what the guy is asking for it.. it might be worth it, even if its locked.. cause they're ususally 350-600$ depending on if they have custom tunes or not..

 

Yes, he can just use the USB cable and plug it into any USB power source. If he doesnt have the cable handy, it's a standard USB Printer cable. Call him and tell him about my prior post and see what he says. Even better, have him take a picture of it and post it on here and we can tell you 100% if it's unlocked or not.

And yes, baseline price for these units are $380 new so it all depends on how much he is asking.

 

Ok, I just spoke with the guy and he said the divice is married with 5 unlocks. Does that mean I gotta send it to SCT, or can I unlock it myself? Thanks for all the help guys.

Yeah, $150 cost and $150 to get it unlocked plus shipping to SCT = too much. Hell I have a unlocked SCT X3 that I was gonna post up for sale for $265 shipped if you want it. Email me at sogwap55@yahoo.com if interested and I can send ya pics once I take em.

You can get them around $250 to $275 unlocked usually but gotta be fairly quick as they go quick normally.
