Default Where to get 8.8

I have the 7.5 in my 95 Mustang V6 right now, and with my V8 swap I've been trying to find an 8.8 axle that will fit. I've looked at junkyards, craigslist, mustang classifieds, car shows/swap meets, and nothing. Another catch is that I don't have ABS in the 95, and I'm not sure if a rear axle meant for an ABS car will work?

Any ideas?

Well sounds like you don't want to shell out $1200 for a new one.. you know you have the right idea i would say keep looking at the places your looking at right now. Make a list of your local junkyards and keep calling them back every so often. Don't limmit yourself to 94-98 as a 99-04 will bolt right up and I think end to end the whole assembly is around 1.5-1.75" longer which helps fill out the wheel wells(Ive seen it, looks much better).

If I spent 4-5 hours driving around to the local junkyards I bet I could find 15-20 8.8s for your car, so you should be able to find one if your persistant. As far as the ABS, to do the actual conversion i believe its a lot of work(not worth it from what i hear). To use one thats equipped with ABS I cant tell you for sure but my uneducated guess would be you could remove the sensors and the lock rings and... that may be it im really not sure.

Well that's just it-I can't even find the assemblies new. Not a single parts catalog I own (and I own at least a half dozen different one!) has an 8.8 in there. I've been to every junkyard within two hours distance from my house and hardly any have salvagable Mustangs, let alone 8.8's.

Ebay! Seriously there are quite a few on there for a very good price.

Here is one for example http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-95...item19c0254056

Hmm, not a bad idea. $500 plus shipping (around $200 I'm sure) is a bit pricey but if in a pinch would work out I'm sure.

Post a WTB ad on TCStangs.com. See who has what laying around out back.
Might be a drive, but I'm sure you'll find something.

Maybe this thread was good luck....just yesterday I found an 8.8 on craigslist for $50. I took a look at it and it's in great shape (I'm replacing the axles and gears anyway), so I'm pretty happy

Thanks everyone!

WOW!
I'm blown away by the prices your finding. I usually ask 125-150 for a stock geared 8.8 or 200-225 for one with an aftermarket gear, and it takes weeks to sell sometimes!

I was going to remind you to look for fox 86-93 style and reuse your axles and brakes, but it looks like you have got that already.

^Seriously? That's not a bad deal at all. I just got lucky I guess. Occasionally when an 8.8 pops up for sale they're never cheap....$300+.
