Default Smoke coming from cigarette lighter

Ive had my 07 Mustang pretty much since it was new. Never had a problem. I've had one of those iPhone things that plugs into the cigarette lighter and plays your iPhone songs on the radio. anyways I've used that for about two years also never with a problem at all. Today I was driving a 1.5 hour trip I've taken hundreds of times for commute. Today a minute before I got to my destination my songs stopped playing and I noticed smOke coming from the cigarette lighter. What can cause this? A blown fuse? Or what??

I would guess the plug you use in the aux outlet shorted out. Try plugging you iPhone adapter in another vehicle & see if it works.

not sure, if youre a do it yourselfer then you might need to take apart the dash and check the wiring, you may need a new power socket and have to buy it, if you do find out that you have a blown fuse in your socket i think its a very cheap replacement, as always be careful when you plug/unplug stuff though

If the problem was serious, you would have blown the fuse that protects the lighter.

Either the Iphone plug is damaged, or something fell into your lighter socket.
The small metal ring on the Iphone plug probably fell off in the lighter socket.

Look in the lighter socket to see if anything metal is in there. If so, you might want to remove the lighter fuse before trying to get it out. The worst that will happen is that you will blow the fuse.

disconnect the negative cable on your battery first!
