Hey everyone,

First of all, let me say that I don't know anything about cars, but you may need to dumb things down for me. What is the difference between the 8 cylinder and the 6? Obviously, there is a difference between the numbers of cylinders, but what are some other differences that I should know about? I'm not a very experienced driver and I don't speed or race, so would paying extra for the 8 cylinder be a waste of money? Secondly, are convertables more dangerous than hard tops? I've been asking around, and most of the people I've talked to have told me that convertables are very dangerous, but is that only if the car flips over? (which is unlikely to happen seeing as I don't speed). I just want to be as informed as possible before making up my mind, and I thought this forum would be the best place to gain information. Also, any other additional information regarding Mustangs which would be helpful would also be greatly appericiated. Thanks

The Mustang GT (the 8 cylinder), has a lot of "bang for the buck". The GT has 260 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque from its 4.6L which make it fun to drive. You can get a nicely equipped GT for $25k. The v6 only has 190 horsepower and it costs $19k. l have the 2003 GT and getting it is NOT a waste of money. The convertibles are higher in insurance and it weighs more than a coupe. Also, the convertable top may leak when it gets old.

 

Trust me...just because you don't speed doesnt' mean you won't flip.

 

What do you have to do to flip a car? I drive a Rodeo, so I know that taking hard turns will flip the car indefinately- but if I go by the speed limit and slow down when taking turns, would that eliminate the possibility of fliping over? <img border="0" src= smileys/smiley5.gif>

 

Even if you go slow, someone might come ram you at full speed. Anything can happen and going slow doesn't exactly mean that you aren't going to flip.

 

I rolled a pickup while only doing 30. You have no clue as to just how much force you have behind you at 30mph. If you lose control on an icy road or a rain soaked road and hit a curb sideways at 30, you will flip. It just happens from time to time. That being said, I have a convertible and love it. We all take risks wether it be racing, riding motorcycles, cruising down a busy street, etc. That being said, I like my chances of surviving in my convertible. The risk isn't as high as racing or riding a motorcycle.

 

I've seen people just go over the side of the road and down a 40 foot cliff......they even slowed down and turned. They were rear ended.



I'd personally perfer a coupe or Hatch with a V8 in it.

 

if you dont plan on racing or care about going fast then its kinda pointless to spend more money on the 8. If you want to go fast go with the 8. The only reason you would want an 8 since you dont plan on racing is the fact they sound better than a 6
