1989 LX 2.3 restoration
Hey guys, I have a 1989 Mustang lx 2.3L wit about 130,000 miles. I plan on restoring it, i need to rebuild the engine because one of the heads arent working well, and i would like to mod the car, but i cant seem to find any that arent for a 5.0 . I was wondering if it is worth it to fix this car up, its needs a lot of work .exe new paintjob, tires, engine rebuild, new exhaust and other things too. One more, a dumb question , are there superchargers for the 4 cylinder version?
ok well it all depends one what you want to do with it. you could rebuild the car yourself and drop in a 2.3T engine and have a rather nice custom car that you did yourself or just sell that and buy a 5.0 like everyone else. If i was you i would rebuild it or rind maybe a better base car and drop in a 2.3T engine from a thunderbird a.k.a turbocoupe and follow this guide http://www.ford23.com/stinger/turboswaphowto.html but its up to you.
how should i rebuild it then, for more power, should i bore it or add a turbo when i rebuild it, everything on the car needs to be restored, but engines first. Wait so that turbocoupe aint a mustang engine? I want to jus rebuild the stock engine wit some power.Im going to need change the transmission soon , so should i covernt it into a manucal if it wont cost a lot?
seems like a lot of money to throw at a four cylinder 1989 mustang. why not buy a 5.0 if you're gonna go through the trouble. they are probably easier to find good parts for.
what do u think i could get done for about 6 grand. engine restored for sure and all the other parts i want restred. its a car thats been in the family for a long time, its gonna be sold for a couple hundred bucks. wanna save it, where could i get a turbo for the engine , or jus a engine wit a turbo, the thunderbird engines?
ok a turbocoupe engine is a 2.3 engine just like the one you have in there now with some performance to it, it drops right in but the wiring needs to be changed a little for it but that web site shows you how to do that. if the car has been in your family for a long time then keep it that way and restore it. for 6 grand i'm sure that you can restore it if you do the work yourself. i kow you can find a nice little turbocoupe that has a ****ty body for say few hundred and you can take the parts from that car and put them into that mustang you have then, when you do that you can conver that trans you have into a 5 speed. its really rather easy from the way the guy shows you. i say keep it restore it and have a rather nice mustang different fromthe 5.0s
