Possible dumb question
I had a bad tail shaft seal. I replaced it. While it was leaking the tranny fluid was being thrown everywhere. Needless to say, it was being burnt off and was pretty unpleasant. Anyways, no more smelly odor but I do feel some heat coming out of my transmission opening in the floor pan. I destroyed my lower shift boot and have not have time to pick up the new one. Is it normal to have some heat in that area? Without the lower shift boot in place, I can feel the heat whenever I shift or my hand is on the shifter. In no way does it burn me but it is noticeable. Again is this normal? I imagine thats the reason why the boot is there in the first place, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask around. As a by the way, I did refill the transmission to the fill line after I replaced the tail shaft seal so if there is some heat there that shouldn't be it is not due to low fluid levels.
