Default Unsupported System !!

I purchases a used 07 Shelby GT in June from a NY car dealer. It won't pass NJ inspection due to system unsupported. They're saying the computer has been fried due to previous owner (or the dealer!) trying to alter the performance, the mechanic says i need a new computer which comes from Ford, then a program to down load the modifications from Shelby. It has cost me $500 just to find this out, now it will cost me $1500 to do the rest! I'm afraid this is going to screw up the performance and possibly the value of the car. There were SO many "warning signs" not to buy this car from this dealer....but i had to have "her"! Any suggestions? Should i go ahead with a new computer?

The dealer shouldnt have been able to sell you a car that wouldnt pass emissions. Id say that they should pay for the repairs, or take the car back. I know NY has emissions testing just as well as NJ, so that should be a non issue.

I agree with this statement, in a perfect world. I bet the dealer the car was bought from says the computer was fried after the car was sold. I take it that there was no used car warranty.

The main issue I see is the car was purchased in June, and its now the end of August.

I hope he has a used car warranty, and it has not run out yet.

They are probably the rudest people i ever met! I had argued with them over the price trying to take off only a $1,000 for many things bold rear tires, which they said were fairly new and thats the way low-profile tires look, 0 brake pads, rear light miss functions, and faded racing stripes. I should of known better! They didn't budge! Both rear tires were down to the wear bar and one had a plug with string wrapped around it! The two front tires were directional... they were on backwards! I had to rescue this car! LOL I argued with them and they finally sent me $300. better than nothing! They took advantage of a female buyer! My first payment was due July 6th no papers came in the mail, i called the bank and they said the dealer had me fill out the wrong paperwork! So i had to do it again. My plates came over a month later! So i was already overdue for inspection. Then i was out of the country for 3 weeks. So thats why so much time has passed. SORRY I NEEDED TO VENT! My husband is sick of hearing it! LOL!

Your husband should get off his butt and go with you to get this mess straightened out... too many females get taken advantage of when it comes to cars. Neither my GF or her daughter ever go to a garage alone.

I go for my wife, sad to say but it's true, women get no respect in the auto industry.
