Bra, Rain, GT Paint Effect?
Hi,
Bonnie just bought a gorgeous 04 GT Black convertible. We live on the Oregon Coast where it rains some. We bought a Ford Company bra cause of lots of bugs over the Costal mountains on the bumper. Now we wonder if we have to take the bra off in the rain. Bonnie thinks leaving the bra on after it is wet and for long periods of time will hurt the paint job. OTOH, we havent put it on yet and if it looks good why not leave it on till it wears out and then get another? Who cares if it disfugures the paint job a bit. We plan on keeping this car a long, long time.
any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

Having owned a car with a bra and leaving it on during the rain, I would say take it off during the rain. What happens is that it WILL scratch the clearcoat. Any dirt on the bra will get soaked into the bra when it gets wet causing it to start acting like sand paper over time.
Better safe than sorry!

I agree with redass (OMG, did I actually say that?). I would check into that. In the mean time I'm gonna go to the doctor, I think somethings wrong. I agreed with redass!
I have a 06 GT and had a clear bra put on it.... you have to get right next to it to see it.
the front is a breeze to clean bugs off of, one quik wipe with as little as a paper towel
does the job. I know some who had a conventional bra and left it on in the rain
and the
logo on the bra was almost imprinted on the paint. keep it dry... ! !

It all depends on you and the care of the car. Is it a daily driver? If it is, it will require more care. As long as you take it off frequently to wash under it and wax under it, it will always look new. That is the main key. If you neglect doing this, you will have fading. Most people are lazy, and that is where you run into problems. I have had many, but always take care of keeping it waxed underneath, so when mine is pulled off.........my car always looks new.
dont forget to wash the bra when its off too. dirt gets traped in the back of those things and destroys the paint under them if youdon't keep them clean. if ya don't want to take the bra off ever week or so to wash it and under it. your better off just leaving it off the car and keeping a good coat of wax on the front.

I would advise against the bra.I had a Le Bra on another car and it did trap dirt underneath. There is a clear protector that is applied like window tint that I wish I had used. The same shop that does window tint should have this available. If you don't want to go this route you can just keep the front bumper coated with a good quality wax and the bugs will still come off fairly easily.
