Default oil leak...

I think I've got the right part, but wanted to run it by a few of you guys first.. under the car, you've got your oil filter. There's an assembly that you screw the filter onto. I need to replace the gasket behind that. I bought an oil filter adapter or adapter gasket. Ive been told that on the engine side of the part I'm removing theres a recessed area, and that's where that gasket goes. Is this true, and how much oil can I expect to lose replacing this. Any info is much appreciated.

Sounds like little to none to me. At rest the oil sits in the pan. Be prepared for the worst though. And make sure to clean the area before you install new components!

Hmm... Tried to post reply from email but it didn't pop up here. If it double posts I apologize. I do expect to loose a little bit but I have means to get oil if I need it. I got a pic of the gasket posted in my garage, If anybody wants to verifythe part

How did your install go? I am doing mine right now. I just did it all but now I am getting a water leak from it. Looks like i need to take it back off and see if I did something wrong. Did you run into any issues?

Install went very well. Did the rack and pinion, sway bar bushings and links all at the same time.. with all that stuff out of the way it was a lot easier to reach. Didn't run into issues with the oil adapter at all, most important thing I think is making sure the mating surfaces are clean. I didn't use any instant gasket either.

I figured out my problem. It turns out that the Ford gasket that cost 4 times the Napa/Felpro gasket is well worth the money. Since it was leaking water after my first attempt I took it all back apart, checked and cleaned all the surfaces again and could not find anything wrong. I took the gasket back to Napa and the gave me a new one no problem. I put everything back together being very careful to do it all correctly. Put the oil filter back on, water back in and fired it up. Water leak AGAIN! So back apart it all came. Finally I broke down and went to Ford to get the gasket. The Ford gasket actually looks way better. I put it on and bolted everything up and finally no leak. I even pressure tested the coolant system and all seem good.

No kidding. I'll have to remember that if mine starts leaking again. Thanks
