Default It's almost like a new car!

While my Mustang has always been fun to ride in around town, it's been a curse on the highway. Wind noise, tire noise, rattles and an exhaust drone made the car almost unbearable for extended drives at highway speeds. I decided something had to be done.

First I pulled the door panels off and installed a little Dynamat that I had left over from a previous project. My next step was to resurrect the door seals that had been squished down over time.

Rather than go out and buy new seals, I applied a trick that I used on my truck. By cutting a small slit in hollow section of the door seal, I inserted 5/16" foam backer rod. The backer rod takes up some space in the seals while still remaining pliable in cold weather. The doors now seal tight and my wind noise is all but gone.

I then set out to find the rattles. The biggest culprit was coming from the shelf above the back seat. I found that both rear speakers were fairly loose. I tightened up the screws holding them in place and all is well. While I was in there, I also found that the connections for both speakers weren't hooked up.

I took the car for a test drive and what a difference! Other than a little bit of exhaust drone, the car is much quieter and rattle free.
