Dreaded Steering Control Valve on 68
Hello,
This is my first time posting in the forum. Hope this is the correct area for asking a question.
I have a 68 fastback that I just went through regarding the power steering. I had a leaky control valve and slave cylinder and wanted to fix the leaks. Had a rebuilt valve and cylinder from another car that had not been used since the rebuild from mustangs unlimited. Replaced the control valve and cylinder with the rebuilt parts and here we are
I have a very odd shaking going on now. It does this with car jacked up or load bearing. The shaking starts when I start trying to bleed the system with car jacked up. It gets to the point that I have to shut the car off. Turn it back on and its fine until you start trying to turn the wheel.
I have adjusted the valve nut to 90 inch pounds and backed off 1/4 turn as shop man. says. This makes the problem worse. The looser I adjust the nut the better it gets. I cant eliminate the problem however.
I did install a big block hose setup on my car to eliminate new FPA headers interference. I also installed a cooler on the return side of the system to reduce heat. New hoses, fairly new pump, new idler arm, same tie rods (Did not touch during the process)
I am thinking control valve was not rebuilt correctly. The old control valve that I removed got beat up pretty bad during removal from pitman arm. I have tried contacting stangersite out of Texas but have not been able to reach them. I have heard the new valves from CJ or Mustangs unlimited are lacking. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. It was the rebuilt control valve. I even went through and rebuilt it also. I put the new one on that I got from CJ pony and it works like a charm. Very impressed with how it tightened up the steering and no leaks. Im thinking the problem was in the spool itself??
