ABS system in 2006 Ford Mustang
Forgive me if I do something wrong in the forums I'm brand new! I just took my 2006 Ford Mustang base coup V6 to the shop after the ABS light came on (and stayed on the whole time I'm driving) the shop said the ABS system needed replaced so it would cost me $770?! Is this normal or outrageous? Is there any way I could replace the thing myself? I'm not familiar working with cars but I'll become an expert if it means not paying $770 for ABS brakes :-).

The ABS system is a bunch of different components. If they truly said they need to replace the entire ABS system then I would find another mechanic because there is no way that the entire ABS system failed. If you could be more specific about what the mechanic said was wrong we would be able to help you better. Chances are its a small, cheap, and easy to replace sensor that failed.

They said it was the ABS module 600$ something from ford

I can see the ABS module costing that much to replace but, they don't typically just go out like that...what did they say led them to that diagnostic?
You need to get more information. You can also go to an independent shop to see what they say (2nd opinion).

That makes me feel a little better the car has 100k miles on it so I'm not surprised something like this would go. I was also wondering, shouldn't they give me the old ABS module? I'm going to go pick up the car later today and was wondering if they should give it to me or would they have sent it to Ford or something?

I don’t know what the law is in Texas, but in CA they are required to give you the old part if you request it.
100k miles is not a lot. So it is surprising to me that the ABS module would go bad. Thats not a common problem.
