Serious Help....
I posted it before but no help so hopefully I can get some now....
When Im driving around 45-50mph in 4th and when I go to downshift to 3rd I do it around 1800rpms still in 4th.....but when I put it in 3rd and start to let the clucth out it does nothing, it acts like its in neutral and the rpms drop real low....around 1000, whats going on here? Because I know when you downshift they are supposed to shoot way up.
P.S.
When I try to down shift from 3rd to 2nd works everytime...but not 4th to 3rd?!?! Also I drive a bone stock 99 V6 stang with 44k miles.

Yo dude.. it's simple math..
If you're in forth gear around 1800rpm and shift to another gear and wind up at around 1000 rpm, then you have definitely shifted to a HIGHER gear.. and right beside 3rd on a 5-speed is 5th.. it ain't rocket science

Once you make the downshift, does the motor lug, or is the clutch not fully engaging and slipping? The Pony that I just bought is my first automatic tranny and your right, it's tough to mistake 3rd for 5th!

RE: Serious Help....
how does it act when you up shift into 3rd from 2nd? has it ever ground, or popped out of gear? it sounds like it may not be engaging the gear properly. it is strange how when you put it into 3rd it drops to 1000 rpm's but its not free wheeling, its actualy tryng to accelerate when you hit th4e gas. if it wasnt in a gear then it would just free rev. with the car off just try putting it through all the top row of gears, 1 to 3 to 5 make sure it goes into em all. if it feels weird it may have something bent inside the tranny. ever power shift it real hard?
