I have a new in the Ford Box 8.8" Traction-Loc unit that I would like to install into one of my cars. It was originally purchased for a 28 spline use. Will this carrier allow me to just swap out the side gears for 31 spline pieces?

I'm not quite sure what your asking, but a 28 spline carrier only excepts 28 spline axles.

EDIT:After reading your post again, I don't think you can just swap the spider gears, you need the matching carrier. Or stronger aftermarket 28 spline axles.
