Default Blown Rear Differential - Central NJ

I need to replace my rear differential on my 2001 mustang V6. I took my car to freedman auto and they quoted me $1100 for a Junkyard differential

Looking for a good Mustang mechanic around Central NJ.

Describe "blown", what's it doing that it can't be rebuilt?

Over 35 mph the car start shaking all over the place. Also, there is weird noise coming from the assembly.

That the whole reason I need a good mechanic. Who can diagnose the actual problem and replace wheat needed.

I would look into a bad u- joint or bent rim first.

Its wasn't the differential.

It was suggested it was the transmission mount.

Replaced the above mounts and still there is vibration..

severe shake between 35-35 mph.

This is driving me nuts.

Well if everything checks out ok, then maybe there's a bent axle or tweaked hub or something else internal but I've never personally heard or seen one cause a bad vibration at such a low speed.

$1100 seems a bit steep for parts and install, but maybe prices differ alittle to location. If your mechanically inclined, replacing a rearend is not that hard of a job to tackle it yourself. You'd save yourself $500-$600 for 3-4hrs of wrenching if it's your first time. Assuming a used rearend is $400-$500 around you.

Good luck and keep us posted on the outcome, just to help the next guy with similar troubles.
