Default Gear Recommendations ...... 94 GT Auto

Have a 94 GT, 5.0 automatic, basically stock engine for now, probably won't get too crazy in the future with it, maybe explorer intake, cold air intake, but thought gears would be a big bang for the buck right now. Mechanic said it has 2:7 something in it which would explain the **** poor acceleration so thought about going 3:73's. Its my daily driver and I do some interstate driving mostly around town, so how does that sound or should I consider 3:55's instead. Like to have a lot better acceleration but don't want to kill my daily drivability. Also would anyone recommend a shift kit for the tranny? If it means anything as far as tires and rims, I have gone to 275/35/18's on the rear. Thanks all.

Changing out the rear diff ratio is highly discussed. It's pretty simple, if you want a bit more giddy-up and don't mind losing fuel economy, then go for it. If you don't want to burn more fuel, then 3.55 might be a better option. 3.31 probably wouldn't be worth the time.

Try searching the sub forum for your model year. Again, this is heavily discussed so you'll find plenty of info.

With the auto, a lot of guys recommend 4:10. I'd say 3:73 at a minimum, the SN's are a little heavier and the little bit of mileage you'll lose from the gear swap with be more than made up by the smile that will be on your face. Best bang for the buck mod you can do. Good luck in your choice.
