Exclamation Buying dilemmas--2014 vs 2016/Auto vs manual

I've been without a Mustang for about 3 years, and I'm getting the urge to buy another one. I'm debating on getting a leftover 2014 vs ordering a new 2016.

I prefer the 2014 body style to the 2015/2016s. However, the 2015s/16s have IRS and other "improvements" over the 2014s. Are the 2015s that much better than the 2014s? I've seen some YouTube videos about the poor quality of the 2015s, so that has me a little concerned.

I'm also debating on manual vs automatic. Have the earlier MT82 issues been resolved in the 2014s and up? While I prefer manual, I've heard the automatics are more or less bulletproof, and the +/- buttons on the 2014s make it a bit more fun. I know the 2015s/16s have paddle shifters; I've driven a car with them, and I was highly impressed.

Your opinions are encouraged!

Manual all day. I've got 45k on my 13 v6 premium and have had zero issues. I've got the SR short shifter and Barton bracket. Works great. I do like the exterior of the 13-14 better than the 15s however the interior is awesome especially in the premiums.

Default Buying dilemmas--2014 vs 2016/Auto vs manual

If you're buying new, and you don't get the new one, you're doing yourself a disservice. I agree with you, I like the front end on my '12 better, but every other aspect of the new car is better. Don't be silly. No one will want to buy your used '14 when for two grand more they can get a used '16 when you sell it in a few years. And that entire time, you get the benefit of driving a nicer car.

When the 15s came out I thought they would grow on me but they didnt and mainly because how the front end looks. I have a 13 GT Premium Auto, it's fun, yes the +/- in Sport mode is fun as well, the only downfault is the 3.15 Gear Ratio they come with, but I mean if you cruise over race then it won't bother you at all. 11-14s have a real muscle car look versus the 15s and although I do believe the 15s suspension is better, the whole car itself isn't far more superior to the 11-14. It all comes down to preference. Haven't had any issues other than a self created one with my 13' with 29K miles on it. Get compliments daily. Nobody I know has had issues with the manuel trans on the 13-14s, however you will have to keep up with lube-ing the gears but that's a given and cheap expenses.

What do you mean by lubeing the gears? In the transmission or rear end?

I don't mind the front end; it's the back end that looks hideous to me. The whole car looks as if a Fusion and a Camaro had an ugly baby. Every time I see the '11-14' style next to a '15, either in person or in pics, the '11-'14 looks SO much better to me.

That's the first I've heard of that as well.

If this is true then there is no choice, at least it wouldn't be for me, as I could never spend that much money, and drive something I didn't like how it looked.

Well, my opinion on the 2015s has definitely changed!

I rented a 2014 V6 convertible for two days, then a 2015 Eco-boost convertible for two days--the 2015 was like a totally different car!

Driving the 2014 reminded my of why I sold my 2008 GT convertible--the seats were hard and narrow, and my right leg kept hitting the dash and emergency brake handle. Also, when exiting, my right knee kept hitting the tilt wheel lever--ouch!

The 2015, on the other hand, was MUCH more comfortable, roomier, and seemed to have better materials on the inside. The visibility with the top down was greatly improved, and the standard rear camera came in handy. I think the 2015 convertible even looks better (IMHO) than the fastback.

Now I need to decide if I want a 2015, or order a 2016; along with what transmission. I like the automatic with the paddle shifters, but most of my cars so far have been manuals.

Oh, and it'll definitely have the V-8!
