Had these sitting in the garage for a few months. Had to fix a leak in the top, ended up just having a shop do brand new top.

Kind of a pain to install, but not horrible with two people. Three hours in and done with one seat back and have most of the back seat down to the foam.

 

Well, it's a bit more of a pain than it was earlier, but good results and well worth it!

So are those the same seats? One looks like a vintage 1971-73 style and is quite a bit taller than the other one that looks like my seats in the 02 convertible.

I have an extra set of the 02 convertible seats that need to be recovered so this piques my interest.

 

Yes sir! Reuse the seat frame, new foam and skin. It's the R500 kit from American Muscle.

They have a kit that reuses your headrest like the factory seat, or this one where you strip the head rest down to bare metal and use it as part of the frame to make a "high back" seat.

 

The picture with the finished seat next to the old one, they are both the same height. The "new seat" is mounted to the seat track, the worn seat has the track removed.

If the track was attached, the seats are the same height. Only difference is the new one uses the headrest as part of the frame instead of using it as normal headrest.

 

That's pretty slick.

So, it's a time consuming task for sure and can get frustrating. About 6 hours for each seat, but both fronts are done. Debating when I wanna tackle the backseat. The stripes are not lining up perfectly, but I'm hoping after a few hundred miles of use it will loosen up a bit. Maybe then I get them straight.

Got sidetracked and cleaned the filthy carpet from the previous owner and some water damage. New carpet is in the works. Gonna do away with the power driver seat and go to manual. When I do that I'll put in new carpet.

 

And the front two back in the car. Wasn't sure how the black seats would look with the tan interior, but I like it!
