Fuel Gauge Reading

Fuel Gauge Reading
I am having trouble figuring out why my fuel gauge/fuel sending unit won't work correctly. I took out my sending unit and placed it in the fuel position but it only reads between a 1/4 tank and 1/2 tank. When I place it in the empty position, it reads empty. Anyone know why this is? I pictures of the gauge in both positions if needing to show. Btw, I have an Aeromotive 1000 tank with AutoMeter gauges.

There's probably a short in the rheostat windings in the sending unit. Are they still original yet. This is a fairly common issue in Foxbodys. My 88 does the same thing at 1/4 tank. It'll temporarily read full till if drops to 1/8 tank then it's back to normal. I'm living with it.......lol

Thank you 88. My Aeromotive tank with the components it came with are new but they did sit for a long period of time before being used. This problem occurred right after everything was hooked up. Maybe I have a defective part. I might have to call Aeromotive to see if I can get a replacement part.

Hello to all, I'm going to revive this thread as I'm having similar issues. My fuel gauge stopped working about 3 months ago & I've been using my trip meter to keep track of my fuel level. So this weekend I bit the bullet & swapped out my fuel sending unit thinking this was the culprit. I also found the harness was in horrible shape so I replaced that as well.
To recap, I changed out my sending unit & harness. I still have NO fuel reading. When I put the key on it goes almost to 1/2 way then the needle just falls to empty. As the car runs it stays on empty. Any advice on what could be my issue???
Thanks in advance!!!

I'm no expert on these, but did you test the sending unit with a sweep test and a multimeter before installation ? Just to verify it is good before putting it all back together. I've learned new parts don't always mean good parts lol.
Otherwise I'd just verify wiring again as it seems to be getting power just not giving an accurate reading.
Nice looking Notch by the way.

I'm also wondering if it could be the slosh module:

I just don't want to spend money if I don't need to. I'll update tomorrow.
