Default 68 GT Coupe real or a replica

Hi all, I'm looking at purchasing a 1968 GT Coupe. The seller is saying it is genuine GT but I believe it is a replica. First of all it is c code and I'm asking if any 68 GT Coupe came out as a c code? Most info I've found on the net regarding a 68 GT Coupe is either a s code or J code.

What little I know about it is...
C- 289.
S- 390.
J- 302.

Are you sure its a 1968 and not a 1967? I thought the 289 was finished in 1967 but Ford 'might' have had a few left over to get rid of for early 1968.

Yes it is a 68 and you are correct it is a early 68. The car has a 351 Windsor in it now so it doesn't have matching numbers. All my research is that a GT is either a J code or a S code and if you have a GT why would you replace the engine.

Because not everyone cares about the number matching stuff, and if it had a 302, then a 351 would have more power, and if it had a 390, then a 351 would have better weight balance.
Personally I would not worry about which engine, as I would build an aluminum small block 460 stroker.
