Default elusive problem

Driving uphill one night the car started backfiring and stalled. It would restart but after driving any short distance it stalls. sometimes it stalls as soon as it is put in gear, sometimes it will stall at idle.

Things that have already been checked are
=spark
-timing (ignition)
-fuel pressure
-float level
-accelarator pump squirts

This one has us stumped. The car was running fine for miles and died in the middle of the trip and has not run more than a few yards at a time since then. WHen it does run it runs like normal, can gas it and everything, but it dies a few seconds or a minute later. When it stalls it backfires out through the carb as the engine quits.

The motor is a 70 351 C, carb is a holley 4160 600cfm vacuum secondary, no choke. Ignition is MSD distributor (mech advance), msd 6a box. accel coil. Trans is a C4. THe car was running fine for years with this setup and the problem developed suddenly without any adjustments made. Believe it's a carb issue, open to any suggestions. This is just weird.

thanks for any help or advice.

I agree. I just noticed you have an Accel coil. On my 70 302, I went through 3 Accel Super coils before I realized they were junk. I went to MSD and never had anymore problems.

changed to a dog **** niehoff coil and it started and ran problem free. Amazing. Accel sucks, they cant even make parts that fail properly, this would have been so much easier if they could just make parts that stop working completly, not half assed. What jerks. Thanks for the help.
