Default 1970 Mach 1 clock lens cleaning

I repaired the clock on my 70 Mach 1 and then was giving the lens a cleaning as it was dirty and a bit faded (whitish) I used 2 or 3 different methods, 1) lemon and baking soda, but didnt seem to do the trick. Tried the headlight lens cleaner for cars cleaner where you sand with 3000 grit sand paper then polish but that didn't seem to work either. Then tried the lens wipes that you but at auto stores for lens cleaning but that left almost like a chemical burn on the plastic.
Any ideas to make the plastic clear again?

I've heard that tooth paste can be used as well, but I've never tried it myself. Friend of mine that used to do detailing swore by it though, might be worth a shot.

McGuires ((sp?) or something comparable), headlight restoration kit would probably do a good job with that.
