Default Mach 460 door tweeter conversion, help needed!

Hello, i'm a newb but i did do a search and didn't come up with anything. I'm trying to add the door tweeters and housings to my 03 mustang and cannot get the door panels back on once the housings have been installed. It seems that the plastic below the speaker cover is too thick. I'm not sure what year the housings i have came off of, but they have an E7 part number. That would be from a 97, but often they use the same tooling for multiple years. Are the 94-98 housings different than the 99-04? I see them listed on ebay for 94-04 and the guy at the ford parts counter was no help. Anyone done this yet or have any advice? I know that the housings are a two piece design, but i don't have the lower half. I was just mounting them through the center bolt. Anyways, i'm looking for some tips.

If I remember correctly, you have to put the door panel on first, then the backing plate & tweeter, then the snap the cover on.

I had to take them off to get my door panel off, if that helps.
