Rear hop

RE: Rear hop
Wheel hop is nothing new with any higher powered cars, especially live axle, lightweight pony cars like Mustangs, Cameros, Firbirds, etc. What year Mustang do you have? If you have many miles on her, your quad shocks may be totally gone. Their sole purpose is to better control rear axle movement and wheel hop. I recently replaced mine with a set of KYB quads:

I also installed Tokico struts and shocks at the same time along with Steeda sport springs. Nice combo, great handling. One other item you should look into to further strengthen your rear end is new rear upper control arms. I put in the Ford Racing set which is a steal for the price. I noticed an immediate difference in my rear end stability. Here is another good buy on rear control arms you can read about: http://brothersperformance.com/shop/...g/bbk2522.html
Good luck!

RE: Rear hop
I have an 05 stang gt. The rear hop doesnt really start untill it is starting to get traction in first gear. I dont think it is a problem, it just kind of makes me feel like im rattling my dash apart. I guess it could be my tires losing some tread, and not getting the traction needed

RE: Rear hop
'05, huh, nice car. You should be happy you have all that reserve power to make your wheels hop right from the get go. Wider profile tires with a different "summer" compound will help your situation. The Pirelli's are great all season tires but do you no favors in very high rpm starts. My advice is to get a hi-pro summer compound tire for fair weather driving (unless you are in FL, CA or the deep south/southwest) and use your current tires for the cold weather months. Tires are your easiest best bet. Just make sure you get the variety that states it is good in avoiding hydroplaning. Many summer hi-pro tires really suck in the rain to the point where they can become very dangerous......Gatorbacks for one! Go to www.tirerack.com and look around. Lots of good buys there. Check the reviews for performance and especially hydroplaning. Good luck and enjoy your '05.....I'm jealous.
