Upper and lower control arms will help reduce any wheel hop. Since it is not a daily driver you really should think about a good drag radial tire, such as the Mickey Thompson or BFG, they don't need to be any bigger but they are much much stickier. Tires are the #1 best mod for traction.

it's the aod giving you the trouble.

a 5-speed has a 3.35:1 1st gear compared to your 2.40:1 ist gear in your auto
3.27's were available on the automatics, and i had a '90 gt hardtop AOD w/that had that gear, and it was still slow. (14.40's)

a 3.73 is decent gear for you car, (4.10's are the best) w/ the 'vert being heavy....my '90 lx 'vert AOD ran a 15.10 w/ street tires and 3.73's (still pretty crappy)

that same day i got a 13.60 run on the street tires w/ a zex 100 shot. (everything else was bone stock)

but even w/ the weight, when you gear it like that, traction will be an issue, and ultimately your gonna want a set of cheater slicks.

msd makes a box that has a type of traction control but its pretty expensive and can be hard to tune.

if you have an auto get 4.10's if your using a 5 speed get 3.73's your not gonna really spin the tires every time u get on it, yes you will spin the tires when u want but if u know what your doing u can get a perfectly good launch and acceleration with minimal wheel spin

I wish people here would stop saying this, it's not that simple and easy.
