when i start the car it dosent want to shift out of park but i found a way to do it but then my brake lights dont work can any body help

 

can anybody give a few suggetions i checked the fuses i dont really now what it could be

 

It could be a faulty brake light switch.

 

what car, what year ?

possibly the ignition lock in the column. or the switch from the brakes to show your covering the brakes so it will unlock.

 

it a 95 v6 mustang, do u know were this switch might be located

 

look on the break pedal about 3 inches up from the part where u put ur foot.....and there is a switch.....look and see if the wires are plugged in the switch correctly....that switch controls wheather or not you can put the car in gear as well as your tail lights...i had the same problem

 

thanks i found it , it was unpluged and i had someone fix this before but by the time i got to look at is the peace that plugs in is melted i dont no what that mechanic thought he fixed but it wasnt that so i guess i got to go to the ford junk yard and cut a new one and splice it
