Default Mustang differences

As I mentioned in the new member forum, I have not owned a mustang for about 25 years until a year ago. I am wondering what the differences are in the Bullitt,Mach1's and cobras are. Are they just body and interior differences or totally different drivetrains etc. Are all of the cobras supercharged or just the 03 and 04 models? Sorry for so many questions, but we are looking at getting another mustang and it would help to know some of this info. Thanks

of those 3 all would be a good choice.

the cobra is supposed to be the powerhouse of the bunch....but the bullit has a better intake that alot of guys were swapping out for when it came out.

all are stronger than a GT

and many different options exclusive to all 3

personally, i'd take the bullit.

Quick run down from the 96 04

96-98 GT: 2v, SOHC, live axle, about 220hp.
96-98 Cobra: 4v, DOCH, live axle, 305hp
99-04 GT: 2v, SOHC, IRS, 260hp
99-02 Cobra: 4v, DOHC, IRS, 320hp
03-04 Cobra: 4v, DOHC, IRS, Eaton Supercharged 390hp
Mach 1: 4v, DOCH, Live axle (I dont think it had the IRS...), 305hp. And the kick *** shaker hood.

Hope that helps a little bit. The cobras/mach's are double over head cam's and only the 03/04 cobras ar SC'd.
And someone correct me on the rear ends.. I could defintaly be wrong on the GT's having the IRS.

EDIT- Buillet had a few differences, but I tihnk it was mostly an appearance package.. I dont know much about those. All options have a specific look to them.. different bumpers or hoods or sideskirts or a stripe package.. stuff like that.

99-04 GTs don't have IRS. They are 8.8" live axles.

only stang with an IRS is the cobras

99-04 GT 260 HP
Bullits had 265 HP
Mach 1s have 305 HP (310 in 04)
99-00 cobras have 320
03-04 cobras have 390 and IRS

all numbers are at the flywheel

and to my knowlage, there was no 02 cobra

there wasnt on in 00 either, just the R ( i think)

it really all depends on what you want quik69....

ive got a mid to high 13 second GT and its a freaking blast
but, ive heard many people who own cobras and mach 1's say that they wouldnt even compare a GT to their current car

if you want a summer cruiser car thats fun, you'd probably be alright with a 99-04GT
but if youre looking for a strip/street car, you should look into a 4V motor from either a 96-98 cobra, or a 03-04 Mach 1, and if youre a power freak, 03-04 cobras are all you'll want ...well, not all, but you catch the drift

just do some research and good luck
(by the way, you have any pictures of what im assuming is your 69?)

72machone99gt, thanks to all of you for your replies. I am not so sure that this forum would want a picture of my 69 since it is a prostreet 69 Nova. It is currently going through a total resto. The nova runs low 10's in full battle gear. I had a 68 428 cj mustang at one time and I sure wish I still had it.

driven a mach and a GT with 4.10s and other basic bolt-ons, id take the mach anyday, unless the GT was a vert.

This is funny..no offence man. A buillet IS a GT and doesnt even have that much more HP. Metal manifold, better intake, different seats, gauges, 13" brakes, no fin, GT badges and thats about it but might have missed a few little things. The mach1 is the car to keep stock, would be worth more in the long run and has more history to it. Rather powerful car with good looks. The 03/04 Cobra IS without a doubt the powerhouse of them all. Come stock with 390 HP and can for a few grand get 550 at the wheel. It's all in what you want.. power, respect, both or the most power etc etc-Shane
