well hey theres another good reason not to go with 275's on a 8" rim..... just a waste of rubber... and like someone else on here said how its gonna bulge... the only time i liked when a tire bulged off the rim was on my camaro when i had sumitumos on the rear that were 245 50 16, it was a smooth sidewall tire, and it had a nice tread pattern so thats why it looked good to me. soooo hopefully you like the way it looks. at that point thats the main thing

the problem is the tires are bought already. we thought his rims were 9", but now it turns out they are 8". and while i am aware of the waste etc, and i wont buy this size again, i am stuck with these tires now and am wondering if they will safely work?

dude i had 98 cobra wheels which are 17x8 and i wore the 275 shoe for years! inch 1/2? come on! maybe 3/4 on each side...MAYBE! dude they looked fine on mine i admit 245 might look a little lower profile but not much! they do look better from the back though, alot wider. 245 on 8's are pizza cutters..lol! matter of fact, keep the 275's and get some cobra r's 17x9[

the problem comes when you turn. if the tire is too wide for the rim, the rim will move side to side relative to the tire. this will result in a very sloppy feel during cornering.

i run 245 on my 17x8.5 mach 1 wheels. pain in the *** to get them on (for someone that has never mounted a tire before) but i did and it looks great! only $375 for the set of 4! interested? lemme know.

sounds like your going to run the tires anyway, just do it man.i would'nt worry about it being unsafe. the only thing besides visual is that it might wear the center faster than the out side but, i don't think it will inhibit performance in anyway. i got a set of factory 17 x 9" 98 or 99 wheels with 275/40/17s i love the way it handles but be aware not a very comfortable ride and certian tires are noisyer than others. however your not putting them on for comfort and longevity... LIGHT EM UP!!!

thats a good point. you said you already have the tires, right? so youre going to have to use em. dude i assure you theyll mount up. i always used them on my 8 in. wwheels and now i use em on my 9's too. they fit the 9's alot nicer,but theyll fit the 8's too. if youre going to have to use them then dont worry dude theyll fit and i never had troulble out of mine. go forit dude!
