Default 408 stroker question

ive got just about enough to start purchasing part for my build up but before i do, ive heard from multiple people, technicians and racers, and they all have split opinions, simple question, is a 4 bolt main necisary on a 408 stroker or will the 2 bolt hold up?

2 bolt will hold but your gonna need a good block any oem block newer than 73 isn't gonna hold up with any kind of big power.

the motor i looked at was about 500 HP to the flywheel but its only a 2 bolt main, and i wanted to supercharge it later but it will be a while before i can afford the s/c i was trying to plan ahead so i dont end up blowing up a $5,000 motor

find you a sportsman block they run about 1000 dollars but for a motor under 1000hp its your best bet theres no need in dumping a lot of money in like a dart block for a medium hp motor but you will need a good block.

There is no good reason that a post '73 block will not hold up as well as an earlier one if it's used for a 408.
There have also been some 600HP motors built with 2 bolt mains.......

i was just asking because i can get a "builder motor" 351w wich is an old motor where the top end is about shot but the block is still useable, he is only asking $250 and he says if its cracked he will allow me to exhange it with another one

with the excepiton of maybe the boss engines all the windsors where 2 bolt so thats a given

but a pre 73 351 blocks have more and stronger main webbing that will alow them to hold more hp.

You may also note that the pre '73 blocks are a differant deck hieght as well.
Still no reason that they can't go to 600 HP and live.....
