GEARS

This whole gear change thing has me about nuts. I have 02 GT, lot of bolt on stuff already on it. This GT is manual.. thats my problem. Most guys I talked to say I would be disappointed with anything but 4:10s. This car is lucky to get 5000 miles a year and I don't race it, other than smokin some local ricers I see on the way to work. So with those facts, can I safely run 4;10S or go 373s. I did some pricing and I can buy ford racing ring & pinion and the kit with all the shims, gaskets race and bearings cheaper than Richmond, Jegs. Summit is cheaper. I would think using factory parts would be the the thing to do. Am I right?
Steve PS K&W transmission will install for 175 to 200. K&W is a 3rd Generation company here and have done work for me before.

RE: GEARS
I am going to supply ford 410s and the rebuild kit. Ya think I am okay with 410s on my manual GT?

Install price sounds great. I had a local race shop install mine for $250.00. Another shop quoted me around $600! SCREW THAT!

Go with 4.10's. You will lose a LITTLE top end, but you will get there a LOT faster!

RE: GEARS
go 3.55 for all around driving
3.73 for better accelleration
4.10 for all out dragging and awful gas mileage
Tire size changes can help or hurt these chioces. Tall tires need 3.73 / 4.10. Low profile need 3.08 / 3.55.
I had the extreme. A factory '85 F150. Stock tire and gears was 205/70-15 tire w/ 2.47 gears. I laughed so hard when I saw 2.47 on the axel cover tag. The tires could not handle loads. Changed to 16 inch wheels, 215/85-16 truck tires w/ 3.55 gears. Slowed my top speed, speedO was off by 18 mph. Gave great towing.

RE: GEARS
Not sure if ths thread is still alive, but I have an '06 Manual V8. I believe these have the 3.55's, correct?
For a "daily driver", but getting the better accelleration, would 3.73's be a good improvement? Or not worth the money? I know people have said not to complain about gas mileage, but as a daily driver (80 miles a day) and $2.50 at the pump... it's hard not to be concerned with it.
Also, I was originally thinking about 3.90's, but everyone seems to leave them out of their discussions. Why?
