00-04 or 05-06
Ive come up with the money for a stang finally, Ive been looking at the mods I can do to them and everything, and I went and looked at a brandnew 06 GT Premium there nice but my question is should I get this one or the 2000 -04 GT/and or Cobra Im wanting to do a lot of modification to it, bump that RWHP way up. Another question does anyone know if the exhaust system sounds any diffrent on the two generations or about the same? And what sort of exhaust is better I was thinking about a BBk CNC series x-pipe 2.5 inch pipes without the converters is that better than going with the 2.5 flowmaster and if its not which series of flowmaster delivers the best growl for the mustang? I appricate your help

Welcome! I'm gonna move this to the tech sections so you get more responses.
I think you should go with a 99-04 GT, they're MUCH better looking and you can mod that and beat the new ones.

i personally like the 99-04 body style a little better. but if you decide for the new body style...why not look into getting a very gently used 05 instead of a brand new 06. save yourself a few grand probably and put it towards mods. but its personal preference towards style really.
as far as flowmasters...the lower the series number, the better the growl. the 40 is better than the 50, and the 10 series is probably the best IMO. they are just single chambered flowmasters. the 40s are 2 chambers. the 50s are 3 i think....but they may also be 2. oh...and if you go with the 40 series...i believe the super 40 will give a better sound than the original 40. if you want a very deep sound...go with an h pipe instead of x pipe. its supposed to be a little deeper. but both sound good.

Worry about the car you WANT first. then, making it sound better next
you will kick yourself if you get a mustang and then are unpleased with its performance capabilities but sounds good, instead of getting the better platform car.
it sounds to me like you are very interested from the get go in boosting those numbers from the factory.
99-04 GT's are 225 at the wheels generally, and take ALOT to get to the 300 rwhp mark natrually aspirated.
99,01 Cobras are 320 flywheel, which is what,, 260's-270's to the wheels? im not really sure, but the motor is a 4valve per cylinder design which means that its BIG HORSEPOWER potential will be greater, as well as cheaper,,, the IRS will be the biggest hinderence to begin with, but some work will help that out greatly
03-04 Mach 1's are EXCELLENT choices. 305 hp with 3.55 gearing stock with a live axle makes for some fun as is. However, it too has a 4v design which makes it excellent for a big numbers car. Many people say that next to the 03-04 Cobra, they are some of the best Stangs ever
03-04 Cobra S/C 32V 4.6 390hp-390tq, 6sp, IRS
this car is a beast from the factory, and is made even more brutish with a pulley swap and tune.. ive seen numbers from 430-450 to the wheels.. the transmission is A+, internals are forged,, youer looking at some serious numbers down the road before you will have to worry about replacing something significant due to its inability to handle power.
the IRS is the only weak link in this vehicle
IF youve got 25-28K to work with, this may be your BEST bet
05-06 (this is the car i am least familiar with)
i do know that the 3valve design has been praised thus far for its efficiency , as well as its greatly superior potential over the 2v GT's of 99-04
the only draw back that i can say, is that the price of a new 06 is gonna be pretty steep, while the05's should be able to be found at a resonable price,
i hope this helps somewhat[X(]
