Most practical plans
I just hit 90,000 miles in my 4.6L and i was thinkning its time to think about what iam gonna do when my car dies. I was thinking it would be pretty easy to get a nice 5.0 and dropping it in, and that would be cheaper then getting a "New" 4-7,000$ car.
stock 5.0s are 215hp stock? would a crate engine have more? how cheap to bump it up to 300?

Your asking for more problems than its worth...putting a pushrod engine into a car that was made for a modular. Changing out the aod for a stick is also WAY more trouble than anyone should have to deal with and is $$$. Just rebuild the 4.6L you have now with some PI parts

Eh, it's the same body style as 94-95 and they have 5.0's... The 5.0 motor will be a lot easier to get to 300 rwhp then the 4.6 motor.

practicality and hard labor seem to be very proportaional in todays cars...practical engines for the car are easy to install and therefore are cheaper in the long run (unless your doing this all yourself, which even then its still cheaper). The other modular engines of choise could be a 2v or 4v 5.4L which would require a lot of work to make it fit. Really the only option is the 4.6L unless you have a lot of money to spend. Keep in mind that if you swap out a NPI 4.6 with all PI 4.6 stuff along with a decent cam and intake and exhaust you will be over 300hp...

except that he has an aod and wants a 5-speed...Nothing from a 5.0 will bolt up to anything in a 4.6 engine compartment so youd need new EVERYTHING. Not worth it at all for a less reliable engine...
