Default Polishing and porting

I was just wondering if i got a set of GT40 heads off an explorer should i polish and port them? How much does this usually cost? I know what polishing is and does, but what the hell is porting? And one more, can this be done to the upper and lower intake if i pull that also? Thanks for the advice

Porting is where material is removed from the ports of the head to improve flow numbers an therefore HP.

it really depends on how extensive it is and who does it i know shops that will do a quick job for about 500. but when they start spending a lot fo time on the bowl work and really working them over that number goes up quick.

it really depends on the heads. if you are talking about the stock e7 heads that should be on your car i would say no you can buy a better flowing set of heads for the money but if you had like a set of arf heads yes it is worth the money.
