What Transmission do I have???
I am getting ready to order a short shifter for my car and my garage is full of motorcycles right now and it is about 20 degrees outside so my visual resources are limited.
I have a 2001 Mustang GT 5-speed 4.6 2V, I need to know what model transmission it has so i can order the shifter. Any help or visual indicators would be a great help.
Thanks

This is a tough one. The first 1/2 of 2001 it was a T5 the second 1/2 of 2001 was tremec 3650. I don't know if you take the shifter plate off there is a marking there or not, I can't remember. You may have to crawl under it. If you want to do it the easy way and just check the top. The plastic just snaps out and there are like 6 screws holding down the ring holding the rubber shifter cover. You need to unscrew the shifter ****. Just get a flashlight and look around. Sorry thats the best I can do for you, but I do know they used 2 different trannys.

There is a tranny plate under on the tranny under the car that has the specifics of the tranny on it. Take the numbers to ford and they can tell you for sure from that number.

one easy way to tell is this
The Mustang GT in 2001 had both the T5/T-45 and 3650 Transmissions. Check your driver's door for a sticker and look under "TR" for a "K". If you have a "K" then you have the 3650 Transmission
i also have a 01 GT mine was made in 08/01 and i have the K so i ordered the MGW and damn is that thing tight [sm=gears.gif]
