Default Heater only blows from defroster

Re. 97 base engine: I posted this a while back but now I am ready to tackle this issue. Has anyone replaced the selector switch on the center console? Not the temp control, the other one on the right that controls where the air is coming from.

I suspect that this is the issue since I cannot get any airflow down to my feet. I know that this unit is vacuum controlled but there isn't any loss of vacuum so I doubt that this is the cause.

Other than the Ford dealer, does anyone have a good source for this switch? Anyone have a good used one?

Thanks,

Gary

These vacuum lines can get clogged so make sure you have vacuum getting to the controller.

thanks for the replies. I had the center console all the way disassembled, down to the switch and I attempted to test the vacuum lines to the switch. I used my standard engine vacuum tester and could not find vacuum at the spaghetti lines going to the switch. Did either of you test the actual very small vacuum lines going to the switch?

Any testing ideas? I have an engine vacuum tester as well as a Mity Vac hand pump.

nah,i just happened to find mine loose, i had just had the new motor put in and when i got it back i didnt have heat anywhere except for the windshield. mr and a friend was looking at the motor when i noticed it loose. it was near the firewall on the passenger side. very small one and it didnt make noise or anything. but when i plugged it up i had heat. maybe you could just glance through the small lines up there near the firewall. good luck
